To e-mail me, take "Andy" and my last name (which is at the top of the page) and mash them into one word. Then add an "at" sign, and put all that to the left of gmail.com. Hopefully, the spambots won't be able to figure out my address this time around--

Who I am and what I do

I started writing in high school.  Poems, Stories, you name it. My school offered Chinese as a language my senior year(?!?), and I found that I liked that a lot too.  So I went to college and studied classical Chinese.  Even spent a year at a Chinese University.  Read Confucius in the original.  Classical Chinese opened up a whole new world of literature--ancient poetry forms and baroque, 108-character novels.  I came back even more pumped up to be a writer.  Then I realized I had a bunch of tuition bills to pay.  So I joined the Army--"Just pay off my loans and get out," I thought.

I spent the next twelve years bouncing around the planet: Iraq (the first go-'round), Somalia, Bangladesh.  Then I discovered Embassy Duty, and worked in China, Poland, Kenya, and Tanzania.  Coming back to the US after being away for so long meant getting used to a whole new foreign country.  I got out of the Army in 2002, and went back to my first love, writing.

I now make a living as a freelance writer, specializing in conference and other reports. But I'll write anything...fiction, nonfiction, poetry.  Even fortune-cookie fortunes.  I also do the occasional Chinese-English translation.
